Middle School Academic Club Descriptions

Mathletics Club – MATHCOUNTS (By invitation only) - Mathletics is an elite academic team, generated for students who excel in math. The participants of this club will practice each week to prepare for an individual online contest which will take place in the spring against students in Florida. This club provides an enrichment opportunity to participate in an academic activity and to gain recognition for mathematical achievement. The goal of the contest is educational and to promote enjoyment in the study of math for grades 6-8. Fee: $20

Model United Nations Club (By invitation only) - Model United Nations is an authentic simulation of the UN General Assembly which introduces students to the world of diplomacy, negotiation, and decision making. Students step into the shoes of ambassadors of countries that are members of the UN. Our goal this year is to represent our school in two competitions, one being in New York. Fee: $20

Science Olympiad (By invitation only) - Science Olympiad is a special science competition in which school-based teams of up to 15 students compete in 23 events across various science fields. In previous years, our students prepared for and competed in events spanning fields such as astronomy, anatomy, chemistry, entomology, geology, physics, and mechanical engineering. The Science Olympiad program is a wonderful opportunity to involve students in all disciplines of science and continue their learning well beyond that of the classroom. Fee: $20 

Seaperch (By invitation only) - Seaperch is an innovative underwater robotics program that equips teachers and students to build an underwater remotely operated vehicle (ROV) in an in-school or out-of-school setting. Seaperch is not just a program, it is a competition. Students who successfully complete a Seaperch build can participate in local and regional competitions. Fee: $20

Yearbook Club (By invitation only) - Yearbook Club is a group of devoted, highly mature students who work with the co-sponsors to produce a printed record of the school year using Lifetouch’s portraits and programs. It is a high-quality production that takes weeks and months on end of planning, executing, and meticulous editing so we can sell an amazing physical hardback yearbook to commemorate our amazing RCSAM students, faculty, staff, and summarize the years big events and programs. Fee: $10 for club shirt

Student Council (By invitation only) - The goal is to give a group of elective and volunteer students an opportunity to work together and develop leadership by organizing and carrying out school activities and service projects. In addition to planning events that contribute to school spirit and community welfare the student council is the voice of the student body. Fee: $10 for club shirt

Robotics-FLL Team (By invitation only)First LEGO League teams research real world problems such as food safety, recycling, energy, etc. and are challenged to develop a solution. They also must design, build, and program a robot using LEGO MINDSTORMS technology, then compete on a tabletop playing field. Along their discovery journey, they develop critical thinking and team-building skills, basic STEM applications, and even presentation skills, as they must present their solutions with a dash of creativity to judges. Fee $120

Honor Society (By invitation only) - As you begin the early stages of greater independence and responsibility as a middle level student, you may discover that you excel in your studies, have an interest in leadership and service, and have a thirst for challenge … and accomplishment. Through exclusive resources, programs, and services, members have a unique opportunity to prepare for their next steps in life. Membership truly lays the groundwork for lifelong success.

Middle School Non-Academic Club Options 2022-2023 School Year

Chorus – An opportunity for students that enjoy coming together with others to sing! Students may have opportunities to showcase their singing abilities within the school and out in the community. Optional Fee: $10 for club shirt

Art Club - This is a great place to explore your personal interest in art and get some hands-on experience with art tools and materials if you are not in our class or if you just want more art in your life. Students will be documenting their work on artsonia.com and parents can buy the artwork on souvenirs. Fee: $20.00 for club shirt and supplies

Reading Club - Students will get to vote on the book we read and then we will read and discuss it in our weekly meetings. 

Cardio Club - Cardio club can help you to make your heart healthy and keep your mind sharp by walking, jogging, or running. participants may choose to walk, jog, run with the group around the field at any pace that is most comfortable this is a great time to work on physical fitness and building a positive mindset while developing friendships with other students and teachers in our school community improvement in any endeavor requires dedication and determination. Optional Fee $10 for club shirt

Sports Club – Students will develop sports skills and play a quick scrimmage to put their new-found skills to the test. Students will need to have gym clothes and proper footwear for safety. Optional Fee $10 for club shirt

Drama Club – This club uses multiple forms of expression to build their confidence in public speaking and acting. Activities will help students grow in character and self-esteem. Optional Fee $10 for Club shirt
